International Aspects
Type Approval of Measuring Instruments
In accordance with Act No. 157/2018 Coll. on Metrology and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, a measuring instrument manufactured and placed on the market in another EU member state can be introduced to the Slovak market without additional sample testing, based on a written application for national type approval submitted to the institute.
The institute will issue a national type approval decision if:
a) The instrument was manufactured or placed on the market according to the legal regulations of the respective member state.
b) Test results of the instrument, conducted in another member state for national type approval purposes, are submitted.
c) The instrument's technical and metrological characteristics comply with the Slovak legal requirements.

Initial Verification
In accordance with Act No. 157/2018 Coll. on Metrology and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, an initial verification of a newly designated measuring instrument carried out in another EU member state is recognized as a national initial verification, based on a written application submitted to the institute or designated organization, under the following conditions:
a) The instrument was manufactured or placed on the market in accordance with the legal regulations of the respective member state.
b) The instrument has a valid national type approval according to paragraph 2, Section 21, or Section 22 if type approval is required.
c) The application includes the form and design of the initial verification mark, the name and address of the laboratory that performed the initial verification, and information on the entity that authorized the laboratory to conduct initial verifications.
Conducting additional tests for recognizing foreign initial verification as a national initial verification and marking the instrument with a national verification mark is not required. However, the institute or designated organization may request test results.
These provisions also apply if the national legislation of another EU or EEA member state, or a country with an agreement with the EU, follows a different procedure for placing measuring instruments on the market.
