Data Protection Officer (DPO)

The Slovak Institute of Metrology (SMÚ) has appointed a Data Protection Officer (DPO) who is available to address any questions regarding the processing of personal data. Individuals concerned may also contact this officer regarding the exercise of their rights under applicable legal regulations.

Legal Basis:

The appointment of the Data Protection Officer complies with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and the Council of April 27, 2016, on the protection of individuals concerning the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data (GDPR). This regulation ensures the privacy protection of individuals when processing their personal data.

How the Data Protection Officer Can Assist You:

  • Provides information about personal data processing at SMÚ.
  • Advises on exercising data subjects' rights, including:
    • Right of access to personal data.
    • Right to rectification of incorrect or outdated data.
    • Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten").
    • Right to restriction of processing.
    • Right to data portability to another controller.
  • Answers any questions related to data processing and privacy protection.

All inquiries will be handled confidentially and in compliance with data protection regulations. SMÚ aims to ensure transparent and fair processing of personal data.

WHISTLERBLOWER PROTECTION OFFICER

SMÚ has also designated a Whistleblower Protection Officer, whom employees and other concerned individuals can contact regarding reports of whistleblowing on unethical or unlawful activities, as per Act No. 54/2019 Coll. The officer is responsible for thoroughly reviewing reports and ensuring whistleblower protection against retaliation.

Main Responsibilities of the Whistleblower Protection Officer:

  • Receives and investigates reports of unethical or unlawful activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding the identity of the whistleblower and all affected individuals.
  • Informs the whistleblower about the outcome of the investigation and any actions taken.
  • Collaborates with relevant authorities when further resolution is required.
  • Keeps records of reports and their outcomes in compliance with legal requirements.

Position and Protection of the Whistleblower Protection Officer:

  • The officer performs their duties independently and cannot be penalized for fulfilling their responsibilities.
  • Sufficient resources are allocated to the officer to carry out their role, including access to necessary data and documents.
