Other Standard for Air Humidity

Content

The Secondary Standard for Air Humidity realizes the unit of dew point temperature and relative humidity. The measurement of humidity has become increasingly important as its significant impact on quality of life, product quality, safety, cost, and health has been demonstrated. Humidity control plays a crucial role in meteorology, climatology, food, pharmaceutical, and energy industries, as well as healthcare. Managing humidity levels in storage facilities is essential for protecting moisture-sensitive materials.

Operating Principle

The standard operates on the chilled mirror principle, where:

  • A cooled air sample forms condensation in the form of ice or dew.
  • The onset of condensation is optically detected by monitoring changes in light reflection on the mirror surface.

Calibration and Traceability

  • The standard is linked to a climatic chamber, which is used to calibrate instruments measuring relative humidity.
