SMÚ has established and documented quality management system that meets the requirements of EN ISO 9001: 2008. Calibration services are provided in accordance with ISO / IEC 17025: 2005.

Since 2001, Quality Management System of SMÚ is regularly reviewed by members of Technical Committee for Quality of the regional metrological organization Euramet, e.V. At the meeting of this Committee in February 2011 SMÚ presented and defended the quality management system, which is in accordance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025: 2005 and for reference materials with the requirements of ISO Guide 34.

Based on the results of international comparisons, calibration and measurement capabilities of SMÚ are placed in the so called CMC tables, which are recognized by national metrology institutes and accreditation bodies represented in the ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation).

SMÚ won the National Award for the Quality of the Slovak Republic in 2004 in the category C of governmental organizations. This prize is awarded by the President of the Slovak Republic.

SMÚ capability to carry out scientific work was recognized by the Slovak Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport in 2010. The Ministry issued a certificate for SMÚ to conduct research and development.

SMÚ as an external educational institution provides PhD. studies in the study field 5-2-55 metrology.
